Some say true love is like a ghost. Many talk about it yet only a few have seen it. In our lifetime, we may be lucky enough to find our true love, or sometimes referred to as an individual’s soul mate. But it’s still common enough that we might go through life and never have a chance to find one. Too often couples end up realising they are actually sharing a bed with a roommate instead of a lifetime partner.

Many say true love is a mother’s unconditional love for her child. Some believe it happens when one is ready to give love without expecting anything in return; while others say it’s the time when one sees the worst in a person and still wants to spend the rest of his or her life with that person. Love comes in different shapes. Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if we expect too much from love? I used to believe that love was a pink little heart surrounded by blooming reddish cherries with a sweet little cupid singing love songs on a bed of roses. It took me quite a while to get out of my beautiful pink world and get back to reality.

Love does have a bright, roseate side that keeps a little bird in our heart singing romantic songs. Yet it can also take us on a ride to the darkest tunnel that only leaves a wound with a deep agonising scar in our hearts. The problem is that we tend to forget that every rose has its thorns. A taste of vintage Bordeaux can take you high up to the pleasures of epicurean nirvana yet can give you a bad hangover if you drink too much of it. Well, in this free world, we all are at liberty to design our own true love depending on how we’d like it to taste like. However we shouldn’t forget the bitter taste and the sore bite that love always brings with it.
